The PEUGEOT TYPE 55
It was in 1946 that the first "Type 55" appeared, built on the basis of the pre-war P53 model, whose displacement increased from 100 to 125 cc.
This model is equipped
* a parallelogram fork, no rear suspension,
* a 3-speed gearbox controlled by hand,
* a round cylinder head.
The numerous models based on the "type 55" were very popular in the immediate post-war period. These "mopeds", according to the official name, are above all simple and reliable utilities. These characteristics and their wide distribution mean that today they often serve as the basis for a first restoration.
They are also perfectly able to roll every day, but beware, robustness is not their strong point.
For 10 years, the Type 55 will evolve and Peugeot will give birth to a host of different models. 55 AL, C, T, TA, TC, TCL, GL, GLT, GTS, with or without sliding rear suspension, with parallelogram or telescopic fork, hand gears or foot selector, economical or luxury versions, in short, there There was something for everyone and all budgets!
In total almost 16 different models for the Type 55. This does not make the job of the scrupulous restorer easy.
Especially since there are quite a few "remanufactures" for this range of models except the rubbers, the decals and the seat covers.
Fortunately the machines were built in large numbers and we still find happiness in the various stock exchanges.

Pendant 10 ans, le Type 55 va évoluer et Peugeot va donner naissance à une foule de modèles différents.
55 AL, C, T, TA, TC, TCL, GL, GLT, GTS, avec ou sans suspension arrière coulissante, avec fourche à parallélogramme ou télescopique, vitesses à main ou sélecteur au pied, versions économiques ou luxe, bref, il y en avait pour tous les goûts et toutes les bourses ! Au total près de 16 modèles différents pour le Type 55. Cela ne facilite pas la tâche du restaurateur scrupuleux. D'autant plus qu'il existe assez peu de "refabrications" pour cette gamme de modèles exceptés les caoutchoucs, les décalcomanies et les dessus de selle. Heureusement les machines ont été construites à grand nombre d'exemplaires et l'on trouve encore son bonheur dans les différentes bourses. |
