My name is Roberto Livingston, I am 42 years old, I live in Federal Capital and in this section I will try to tell you how this Site and everything related to it came about.
I have a fascination for everything related to old motorcycles. The first bike I owned and rode was a 1949 Matchless that I still keep and use frequently.
One day in 2000, I went through some "caves", looking for spare parts for one of my motorcycles, I entered a mechanical workshop in Pilar (Buenos Aires) and saw for the first time a PUMA 2nd series, very well armed.
The owner would not sell the bike for anything in the world and had just returned from a meeting in Apostles (Misiones), where he went and walked back in his 98cc Puma. I had never heard of the mark or seen the bike. At that moment I fell in love with the Puma and I decided to have one.
I was attracted by the fact that it was an Argentine motorcycle, and I liked it a lot. I got more involved in the story and I began to realize that the Puma motorcycle was a victim of an injustice and had been forgotten by many, perhaps, as a result of political circumstances of its time.
I was collecting parts of Puma bikes as they appeared. I got to buy a lot of 5 bikes in Bragado for example, to achieve the most original and complete Puma. I collected manuals, explodes, information of users of the time, in short, everything to rescue the Puma. One of the people who gave me the most and best quality of material was Juan Von Martin whom I deeply appreciate.
Using the Internet I could never find enough material about PUMA, so I decided to build a page and I was pleasantly surprised: a lot of fans who did not have their place, were now beginning to concentrate around this venture.
I do not have commercial interests and in fact I hold the site with my pocket, and my own time. The design is mine and I learned how to use FrontPage to build the site. The content is a result of a collection of data in which many people collaborate and continue to do so.
I built this page because I like motorcycles a lot, because I love this country and because I think the national industry is a form of sovereignty and the engine of the economy. I think that if it could once be done with much less resources than now, we can do it again.
By train, the PUMA bikes did not have the best performance nor won design competitions, but they identify Cordoba and Argentina as an example of a right and an obligation that we should exercise through work and industry. They are an essential part of our history, the symbol of a national industry that had drive and autonomy, without giving or taking credit to anyone in particular and without entering into political or conjunctural discussions.
What began as a diversion, has become a crusade that vows to rescue the dream of many who want to recover their Puma from oblivion. Many people have written to me telling me countless stories related to the Puma. I have received the recognition of many people from all over the country and that made me feel the responsibility to continue with this which also gives me many joys.
In November 2003, thanks to Guillermo Galíndez and Francisco San Martín, I was able to actively participate in the organization of the 1st PUMA Motorcycle Meeting. With the support of the Museum of Industry in the city of Córdoba and in a show they assembled on the IAME Industry, I was honored to be part of the organization and to take care of what related to motorcycles. They contacted me through this website; The greatest satisfaction I may have had with this endeavor. I went to Cordoba and continued meeting people and getting friends. The following year we repeated the experience and in 2005, it was done again, I think marking the beginning of a custom.
After building the site I formed the virtual club, and today we have more than 700 people from all over the country with whom we exchange experiences in the assembly and restoration of motorcycles, spare parts data to buy and sell, or solutions of all kinds related to the "Pumitas". Mi nombre es Roberto Livingston, tengo 42 años, vivo en Capital Federal y en esta sección intentaré contarles como surgió este Sitio y todo lo relacionado con él.
Tengo una especie de fascinación por todo lo relacionado con las motos antiguas. La primera moto que tuve y manejé fue una Matchless de 1949 que todavía conservo y uso con frecuencia.
Un día del año 2000, recorriendo algunas "cuevas", buscando repuestos para una de mis motos, entré en un taller mecánico en Pilar (Bs. As.) y vi por primera vez una PUMA 2da serie, muy bien armada.
Su dueño no vendía la moto por nada del mundo y acababa de regresar de
un encuentro en Apóstoles (Misiones), adonde fue y volvió andando en su Puma de
98cc.
Nunca había oído de la marca ni había visto la moto. En ese preciso instante me
enamoré de las Puma y me propuse tener una.
Me atraía el hecho de que fuera una moto argentina, y me gustaba mucho. Me fui metiendo más en la historia y
me empecé a dar cuenta de que la moto Puma era víctima de una injusticia y había
sido por muchos olvidada, tal vez, como consecuencia de circunstancias políticas de su época.
Fui recolectando partes de motos Puma a medida que iban apareciendo. Llegué a comprar un lote de 5 motos en Bragado por ejemplo, para lograr tener la Puma más original y más completa. Recolecté manuales, despieces, información de usuarios de la época, en fin, de todo para rescatar a la Puma. Una de las personas que más y mejor calidad de material me aportó fue Juan Von Martin a quien agradezco profundamente.
Usando Internet nunca pude encontrar suficiente material sobre PUMA, así que entonces fue cuando decidí hacer la página y me encontré con una grata sorpresa: gran cantidad de fanáticos que no tenían su lugar, ahora se empezaban a concentrar alrededor de este emprendimiento.
No tengo intereses comerciales y de hecho sostengo el sitio con mi bolsillo, y mi propio tiempo. El diseño es mío y aprendí a usar el FrontPage para poder armar el sitio. El contenido es es resultado de una recolección de datos en la que mucha gente colaboro y lo sigue haciendo.
Armé esta página porque me gustan mucho las motos, porque amo este país y porque creo que la industria nacional, es una forma de soberanía y el motor de la economía. Pienso que si una vez se pudo hacer con muchos menos recursos que ahora, podemos volver a lograrlo.
En tren de ser francos, las motos PUMA no tenían las mejores prestaciones ni ganaron concursos de diseño, pero identifican a Córdoba y también a la Argentina como ejemplo de un derecho y una obligación que deberíamos ejercer a través del trabajo y de la industria propia. Son una parte esencial de nuestra historia, el símbolo de una industria nacional que tuvo empuje y autonomía, sin darle ni quitarle crédito a nadie en particular y sin entrar en discusiones políticas o coyunturales.
Lo que empezó como una diversión, se ha transformado en una cruzada que boga por rescatar el sueño de muchos que quieren recuperar sus Puma del olvido. Muchas personas me han escrito contándome infinidad de historias relacionadas con las Puma. He recibido el reconocimiento de mucha gente de todo el país y eso me hizo sentir la responsabilidad de continuar con esto que además me da muchas alegrías.
En noviembre del 2003, gracias a Guillermo Galíndez y Francisco San Martín pude participar activamente en la organización el 1er Encuentro de Motos PUMA. Con el apoyo del Museo de la Industria en la ciudad de Córdoba y en una muestra que armaron sobre las Industria IAME, me concedieron el honor de formar parte de la organización y de hacerme cargo de lo relacionado con las motos. Se contactaron conmigo gracias a esta página Web; la mayor satisfacción tal vez que he tenido con este emprendimiento. Fui a Córdoba y seguí conociendo gente y juntando amigos. Al año siguiente repetimos la experiencia y en el 2005, se volvió a hacer, creo que marcando el inicio de una costumbre.
Después del Sitio formé el Club que funciona en Internet, y hoy contamos con mas de 700 personas de todo el país, con quienes intercambiamos experiencias en el armado y restauración de las motos, datos de repuestos para comprar y vender, o soluciones de todo tipo relacionadas con las “Pumitas”.
