A Brief History of the Marque
Made in Argentina
The Amoretto motorcycle was manufactured in Argentina between the 1950s and 1960s. The first model was fitted with a 2-speed 98cc Sachs engine.
The machine had the gearshift on the right, and suspension was by swingar with dual hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear and conventional teledraulic front forks. Its sole instrument was a speedometer with integral odometer. Wheels were 19" with 2.50 x 19 tyres.
Later a 50cc version appeared, the Golondrina, with a 48cc Zanella engine and 3-speed gearbox.
The top speed of the 98 cc version was 55 km/h (34 miles per hour). The 48cc version had a top speed of 60 km/h (37.5 miles per hour) and it performed well when carrying a passenger.
Although the 98cc Sachs (4.5hp) model was more powerful than the 48cc Zanella (3.5hp) it was penalized by having only a 2-speed gearbox - this made accelleration from a standstill somewhat sluggish and made steep slopes challenging.
The Amoretto was attractively styled and well finished, and required little maintenance. Its fuel tank had a capacity of 12 liters (3 gallons) which gave a range of almost 400 km (250 miles).
Typically the Amoretto 98 was finished in red with cream highlights, with a matching two-tone dual seat. Components such as headlights, mudguards and suspension were identical to the Argentine Gilera 150.
N.B. There was an Amoretto scooter built by AMO of Berlin.

The Amoretto motorcycle was manufactured in Argentina between the 1950s and 1960s. Its first 98cc model was fitted with a SACHS engine with a 2-speed gearbox.
The command of the speeds was on the right foot. The rear suspension was with double hydraulic shock absorber and the front suspension was also hydraulic. As the only instrument, it had a speedometer with a built-in odometer.
It had wheels with 19 "tires in size 2.50 x 19. Then a 50 cc version called Golondrina appeared that mounted a 48 cc Zanella engine and 3-speed gearbox.
The top speed of the 98 cc version was 55 km / h (34 miles per hour). The 48 cc version had a top speed of 60 km / h (37,5 miles per hour) and a better performance with 2 people on board. Although the 98cc (4.5hp) SACHS engine was more powerful than the 48cc (3.5hp) Zanella it was penalized by its only 2-speed gearbox which made it a lazy engine to start rolling or on steep slopes.
The Amoretto was a bike with good finishes, very noble and robust and very low maintenance. Its fuel tank had a capacity of 12 liters (3 gallons) which gave a range of almost 400 km (250 miles).
My Amoretto 98 motorcycle was red with cream highlights. the seat was for two people also in red and cream. Several of its parts, such as headlights, fenders and suspensions matched exactly those of the Gilera 150 of the time.
