Melbourne Motorcycle Show 1932

ON the official stand when the Lord Mayor opens the Motor Cycle Show in Melbourne Town Hall today, to be broadcast by 3DB, there will be the Chief Commissioner of Police (General Blarney), the British Trade Commissioner (Mr. H. Setchell), the American Trade Commissioner (Mr. J. Peebles), the president of the Royal Automobile Club (Mr. H. J. Bean), the presi F. L. Yott)[sic], the president of the Australian Association of British Manufacturers (Mr. N. W. Hutchinson), and the secretary of the motor section of the same body (Mr. J. S. Strong).

The visitors will be met by the chairman of the Motor Cycle Show Committee (Mr. R. Bristol) at noon, and they will make a short tour of the exhibits.

Some of the interesting points which will be pointed out to the official party and which should be inspected by other visitors are: -

Outstanding Points of Different Stands

STAND No. 1 - A.J.S., Velocette. Wolf and Scott machines shown by Stillwell and Parry Pty. Ltd. There is a four-speed gear box on the new speed model of the A.J.S., which arrived in Australia yesterday, and the new A.J.S. range incorpor ates an ingenious ring type of headlight dimming switch and horn button.

STAND No. 2. - Floatette sidecars shown by Finlay Bros. New type of sidecar chassis on the lowest price model, which is only £39/10/.

STAND No. 3. - B.S.A. and Panther machines shown by Finlay Bros. Four speed gear boxes on all but two models of the B.S.A., and the new type of vertical engines on the speed models which are known as the Blue Stars.

STAND No; 4. - Rudge and Sun machines shown by Rogers Bros. The Rudge is a motor cycle famous for its racing successes and radial disposition of its four overhead valves. The Australian Grand Prix was won by the Rudge.

STAND No. 5. - Norton and Levis machines shown by E. T. Fisher and Co. Norton motor cycles won the majority of the classic European races this season, and the machine which did it is known as the International. An example of this type, with its four-speed gear box, will be seen on the stand.

STAND No. 6. - Ariel machines shown by Milledge Bros. This make includes the famous Sloper with its four-speed gear box and four overhead valves. The Square Four will also be exhibited.

STAND No. 7. - Radco, Calthorpe and Raleigh Light Delivery shown by Disney's Square Deals. The light delivery is a three-wheel vehicle much the same as was shown last year, but the new model incorporates a more powerful single cylinder motor and the gear box includes a reverse gear.

STAND No. 8. - Excelsior, Sunbeam, Royal Enfield and Brough Superior shown by Findlay and O'Connor Pty. Ltd. The Brough Superior is England's most expensive motor cycle. The model being shown is known as the Black Alpine and has a V twin engine and four-speed gear box.

STAND No. 9. - Coventry Eagle shown by Stewart and Co. This make is famous for its two-stroke machines, which this year include the new Villiers engine with an unusual type of exhaust silencing sys tem. The new 350 c.c. four-stroke model has a four-speed gear box.

STAND No, 10. - New Hudson machines shown by Melbourne Motor Cycle Co. This make of machine has earned for itself the reputation of being the cleanest motor cycle in Britain. All its working parts are completely enclosed and shields surround the engine to prevent oil from being splashed on to the riders' legs.

STAND No. 11, - Indian, Triumph, Dunelt and James machines shown by Rhodes Motor Co. No machine in the show will attract more attention than the new Indian which was landed yesterday. The Indian frame is extraordinarily strong and the steering head incorporates a locking device. The Triumph sports model is a perfect example of a British high-speed touring machine.

STAND No. 12. - Raleigh and New Imperial shown by Disney's Square Deals. Like the Triumph, the Raleigh has an other example of an excellent high-speed touring machine. Known as the M.G. It has an inclined two-port overhead valve engine and a four-speed close ratio gearbox. It is one of the most handsome machines in the Town Hall.

STAND No. 13. - Matchless, Harley, Francis-Barnett and Douglas motor cycles shown by Milledge Bros. The Matchless range will include the Silver Hawk, a four-cylinder overhead valve edition of the Silver Arrow twin. It has a four-speed gear box, spring frame, phenomenal acceleration, and is noted for its silence.
