MRD were motorcycles produced by Pat French of Kingswood, Bristol. The company was formed in 1983 and the initials stood for Model Replicas and Design.
Pat French began by making models, but in time he started to produce full-sized replicas of the Rickman Metisse. He used frames and rolling chassis and a variety of engines to customer specifications. There were some complete machines, some in small batches and later on there were many replicas of the Rickman frame. All were well made and well finished. Following on, came a chassis developed for hill climbs.
During the 1990s, a flat track design was developed to run alongside the street scrambler and cafe racer types. The engines used were usually the 750ccTriumph twin, or the 650cc T120 unit. Other makes could also be accommodated. All the machines were well made and therefore popular.
Pat French died in 2007.
