A Brief History of the Swedish Marque
Manufactured: 1950-1951
Established by respected and well-connected motorcycle sportsman Birger Berggren, the ill-fated machine was designed and built in Charlottenberg with the aim of obtaining contracts from the Norwegian and Swedish military.
Using the Albin Husqvarna engine, and aided by like-minded men of Mannerstedt, the project began well with an initial order of 300 units. Production was only just underway in 1950 when disaster struck. Berrgren died of a stroke.
Some 40 machines were built, four of them sports models.
Union was related to the Furir, Eiber, and Suecia marques.
NB. There is a Swedish marque named Union-SVM (Svenska Velocipedfabriken, Stockholm) which marketed re-badged Husqvarna mopeds in the mid-1950s.
