STAND 43: Machines for the Connoisseur of 250 c.c., 350 c.c. and 500 c.c. : A New Two-stroke

TWO interesting Levis models are the “D Special” and the “Light 500.”

The former has a powerful two-port o.h.v. engine, and_ is equipped with a 3½ gallon petrol tank, low-mounted head lamp, and a dynamo voltage control (also a feature on the 346 c.c. “A Special”).

The “Light 500” is very similar, but has a single-port engine and smaller fuel tank. There are also 247 c.c. and 346 c.c. models exhibited, which are similar in general features.

It should be mentioned that molybdenum-alloy cylinders have been in use on certain Levis models for some time.

“Light 350” Model.—346 c.c. single-cyl. o.h.v. Levis; mechanical lubrication; magneto ignition; all-chain drive; oil-bath primary chain case; 4-speed gear, with foot control; fuel, 2½ gals.; 26x3.25in. tyres.

The “Light 350” is, virtually, a lighter edition of the well-known “A Special.” It has a single-port engine and smaller fuel tank, which is enamelled black with blue panels.

In the 250 c.c. group there is the “B Special,” with an o.h.v. engine, and the “Light 250.” Both machines follow the lines of the larger models in the range, except for a slightly different cylinder-head design.

One of the last-minute surprises at Olympia is an entirely new two-stroke model. It has a single-port 247 c.c. engine with coil ignition.

The specification includes Webb pressed-steel forks, central prop stand, large knee grips, and clean-type handlebars, and the price, including lighting, is £30.
