Paul Paffrath Motorenwerke Altenburg-Nobitz
Linz am Rhein, Asbacher Str.2 (near Bonn)
Manufactured motorcycles under the MW brand with twostroke and fourstroke engines in a pressed metal frame. Early models were 250cc singles, and in the mid-20s there was a 144cc inline twin. These were produced from 1923 to 1926.
An lone example is located at the Augustusburg Motorradmuseum. It is fitted with a Columbus engine.
Eilenriede
Paffrath also designed a hilfsmotor (bicycle auxiliary engine) in the 1950s, marketed as the Eilenriede 35.
The 35cc sidevalve engine developed 1 hp giving a top speed of 30 km/h. The package included the engine, fuel tank and lighting, and weighed 3.7kg.
Pafrath is quoted in a March 1950 article in Der Spiegel: "It's like hanging a briefcase on your bicycle."
