Abako Motorcycles

A Brief History of the Marque

Manufactured by A.G. Kracker & Co., Siegfriedstraße 9-17, Nuremberg, 1920-1925.

The factory built motorcycles under licence from Cockerell until 1924 powered by small Sturmey-Archer engines, and also produced 129cc engines of their own design.

Under their own name they built a motorcycle with their 129cc conventional three-port deflector piston engine coupled to a Sturmey-Archer gearbox. These were quite advanced machines for the day, having chain drive to the rear wheel and a drum front brake. It was quite light, reasonably powerful for the capacity, and in the hands of Hans Gradl did rather well in competition.

The economic climate was harsh, and Abako failed in 1925. J. A. Vogler of Javon took over the company and continued building the machines until 1929, probably under the Javon name.

An Abako motorcycle is displayed at the Museum Industriekultur in Nürnberg.

Abako 1923
I own a Abako motorcycle from 1923 that is displayed in the Nuermberg Industrial Museum. My grandfather gave it to me when I was 11 yrs old and when he passed away my parents and i decided to loan it to the museum along with a Triumph Knirps 1921 that my grandfather gave to my brother. I have tried to research the web to find more info on the bike itself and to find out if there are anymore out there besides mine. The only info I can find is pictures of my bike that are published on various different websites. Please let me know if there is any info you could provide me with.
Thank you
