Verlor Motorcycles

A Brief History of the Marque

Etablissements Verlor
105 avenue Parmentier PARIS (11°), 1931-1936
Bourg, 9 avenue de Paris. 1937-1956.

In 1918 Joseph Chapolard and Léon Thivolle were both in the Service Auto de l’Armée. In 1919, Thivolle was employed at Gnome & Rhone. Chapolard began manufacturing Radior motorcycles in 1926, and invited Thivolle to help out with design. He stayed for a couple of years before moving to Dollar in 1929. Two years later, in 1931, he set up his own business at 105 avenue Parmentier in Paris, building BMA motorcycles under the name Verlor.

By late 1936 Léon Thivolle was in financial strife, and filed for bankruptcy.

Joseph Chapolard brought Thivolle into the Radior fold, and the Verlor marque was revived in 1937 as a division of Radior. The machines were badge engineered, and production continued until 1956.

Thivolle was responsible for the Bison 250, probably his last project before he retired in 1952. His position at Verlor was occupied by Raymond Vallet.

Models include:

    1932 Type S Stainless engine.
    c.1935 98cc BMA
c.1937 98cc BMA with rear suspension.
1952 Tetra, Nervor G2 engine. Identical to the Radior Tetra.
    1954 Type S54

One model they produced was a dual-port single with enclosed chaincase and girder forks with full-width alloy front hub. Some models used JAP engines, and Sachs and Nervor are also listed.
