A Brief History of the Marque
Roger Derny built distinctive and rather beautiful machines in Vichy between 1930 and 1958. The firm built competition motorised bicycles, powered tandems and pacers. The word "derny" entered the French language, meaning pacer, or stayer.
Roger Derny et Fils built the Taon scooter from 1955 to 1958, an elegant machine designed by Roger Tallon who later achieved fame for his work on the TGV trains. The first model had a 70cc engine, increased to 125cc in 1956.
Derny had been involved in motorcycling since the very early days, winning races on Clement and Clement-Gladiator motorcycles in 1902 (premier Mont Ventoux) and 1903.
Cyclorex was a marque also built by Derny.
Manufacture of the Derny was resumed by Alain Burdin, and later by Arie Simon in the Netherlands.
