Comet (Yorkshire)

Comet motorcycles were produced by Gordon May of Yorkshire from 1965 to about 1975.

The grass-track machine was preceded by several frames, the first appearing around 1960 at which time May was a keen competitor in many forms of motorcycle sport.

A frame was built for Australian champion Phil Crump who promptly went out and won everything. Engine-builder Neil Street then ordered two more frames which were fitted with Street engines and taken to Australia, where the Comet machines became quite popular.

Sidecars were also constructed, including one for Dennis Teasdale. See also Comet Flexi-Flyer

A book on the work of Gordon May was written by Tony Webb, The Comet Man.
