A Brief History of the Marque
The firm was established as a bicycle manufacturer in 1923 by Steveninck & Sons of Aalst in Flanders. From 1936 to 1940 and then from 1946 to 1953 they built the Lion Rapide.
Pre-war models were equipped with JLO engines. Post-war they fitted Villiers two-strokes, a JLO twin was added to the range in 1950, and in 1951 they built models with FN M-13 350cc four-stroke engines.
The company was restructured in 1953 and became Salira. The firm's more expensive models continued to be sold as Lion Rapide until 1955. Engine construction continued until 1957.

LION RAPIDE engine without skeleton
Dear Friends!
I have an old friend who is dealing with collection and reconstruction of old motorcycles. Now he has got an engine block and supposes it must be the block of a LION RAPIDE or LION ROUGE produced in Belgium in period around 1930 but he is not sure. Attached: some photos of the engine. Could you please help us to identify the engine and the skeleton that belonged to the engine originally? The next question is if such a skeleton without engine could be bought anywhere or there is any other way to unify the engine with the proper skeleton.
Best regards,
