Kim Newcombe
Kim Newcombe of Auckland moved to Australia in 1963, and then in 1968 with his wife Janeen moved to Europe. He finished second to Phil Read in the 1973 500cc Grand Prix World Championship, ahead of Agostini. This is all the more remarkable seeing that he had suffered a fatal injury at Silverstone before the end of the '73 GP season.
Kim's machine was developed in concert with König and took the world by storm. It was superior to the MV.
Newcombe's story was the subject of the award-winning 2006 documentary Love, Speed and Loss directed by Justin Pemberton.
