J.N. Taylor Motorcycles & Components

J.N. Taylor of 121 Grenfell Street, Adelaide built frames and manufactured engine components including pistons. They also imported JAP and Dalm engines.

Agents for Indian, 1924-1931 or later. (Advertised as "Sole Distributors Indian and BSA in 1931)
JAP distributor for South Australia

Prior to WWII motorcycle sales accounted for £25,000 of their turnover. In the early 1950s this had risen to £465,000. The acquired cycle manufacturer Osterstock Bros in Port Adelaide where they sold BSA, Norton, AJS, and Matchless. Osterstock closed in the early 1960s.

J.N.Taylor & Co manufactured these between 1919 and 1921
Motorcycles were built using JAP engines which the firm referred to as the JAP-Victor. A devastating factory fire in 1921 brought production to a halt.

Dave Basham was apprenticed to JN Taylor in 1956 at the age of 14. He went on to become an excellent competition rider in scrambles, observed trials and road racing.
