During the 3rd Lake Elsinore Grand Prix Steve McQueen crashed his 405cc Husqvarna, breaking six bones in his left foot. He remounted and finished the race in the top ten. There were 500 riders in the race.
On March 21st he drove a Porsche in the 12 hour Sebring race with his foot still in a cast. A Husqvarna 400 he bought in August 1971 sold at auction for US$186,500 in 2022.
