History
Tragatsch lists the following:
#1 Ferrari, not connected to Enzo, making bikes from 1951 to 1954, ranging
from 123cc to 248cc, 2- & 4-strokes, twins & singles. Based in
Milano.
However, another souce says that Ferrari Motorcycles were designed
by Enzo Ferrari's brother, Fratelli Ferrari, and were made from 1951 to
1960. (This is fallacious - Fratelli Ferrari refers to the two brothers who formed the Ferrari motorcycle firm and is the name to which it was changed after being challenged by the famous sport car manufacturer.)
#2 Ferraris: short-lived make which had 2hp Peugeot engines in bicycle frames in 1903. This one is unrelated to Ferrari motorcycles.

It seems not to long ago I had one. In Canada during the mid 70s I
owned a Ferrari motor bike. It had a 80cc motor and a 3 speed gear box.
It was a yellow gold colour with a chrome gas tank, it was a trail bike!
knobby tires chrome fenders and a 22 caliber exhaust system. It was sold
through a local marine store close to my home. It was quite fast and was
equipped with lights it was very very good looking and fun wish I still
had it. ..... -- Dan Middletown NY -- macdan38 at

Hi,
What is that Ferrari bike ?
The only Ferrari bike I know of was a one-off model build in the UK
(and it wasn't a V8 btw...)

As the story goes, in 1953 it was rumored that Ferrari would unveil a motorcycle at the Motosalone di Milano. It was a 125cc single-cylinder two stroke with a two speed gearbox. Naturally what was on display was painted bright Italian racing red and sported a genuine Ferrari logo, probably for about the duration of the show. Just long enough to get some orders from the more gullible enthusiasts. Unfortunately what they were ordering wasn't a product of Enzo Ferrari, but Fratelli Ferrari instead. They were just two brothers who happened to share the popular Italian surname. Meanwhile the real Ferrari (Enzo) was not at all pleased.
The bike itself lacked any remarkable performance and simply sported an engine that was more or less a direct copy of a Parilla 125/250cc. Apparently one of the brothers had worked in the Parilla factory for a while.
I only hope that the Ferrari motorcycle seen at the All-Italian Concours didn't win a prize because people mistook it for the Ferrari of sportscar fame....but, on the other hand, a genuine "Fratelli Ferrari" is not only rare, but has a unique story behind it.

The Motorcycle encyclopedia I have lists Ferraris as a 1903 manufacturer
who fitted Peugeot engines to bicycles and Ferrari 1952 - 1960 as making
mostly 125cc to 160cc two strokes although the also mention a 175 twin
with double overhead cams.
