MotoVespa

MotoVespa Scooters and Motorcycles

Manufactured by Moto Vespa SA

Based at Calle Julián Camarillo, 6 in Madrid, the company was formed in 1952 by Piaggio and Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI), the largest automotive producer in Spain.

Over the course of 50 years they built a considerable variety of motorcycles and scooters using in addition to the MotoVespa brand, those of Puch, Gilera, Vespa, Vespino and Piaggio.

The Vespino was introduced in 1968 and became the most popular moped in Spain, retaining that place for over 30 years until production ceased at the end of the millenium. It was exported to South America, Africa and several European countries.

In 1978 the P-range Vespa was introduced; the P200DS was built from 1978 to 81, followed by the P200DN. The Moto Vespa T5 appeared in 1986, soon joined by the similar TX200 - both of these had electric start.

At the end of the 1990s, Moto Vespa exported to 35 countries and had almost 1,000 employees.

Production ceased in 2003.
