Patriarca Motorcycles

A Brief History of the Marque

Manufactured: 1907-51

Gustavo Patriarca of Turin built a single-cylinder 100cc two-stroke engine for installation in suitable frames.

Ignition was by battery and coil, and the motor was positioned with the crankcase above the pedals of the bicycle. After World War I, the designer dedicated himself exclusively to motorcycles and founded a small factory. In 1924 and 1925 the company built complete motorcycles.

The machines used engines from both Moser and JAP of 125, 175 and 250cc. After 1930 the company built its own engine, produced mainly small displacement motorcycles as imported engines were no longer available due to the regressive policies of the fascist goverment. In 1933 the company ceased trading.

After World War II Patriarca designed the Motina which was introduced in 1951. This interesting machine has a single-cylinder 248cc vertical four-stroke of around 14 hp. Very few were built.
