Jooss Söhne Motorräder

A Brief History of the Marque

Manufactured 1900~1907

Munich firm built motorised bicycles with inclined single-cylinder and parallel twins mounted horizontally with one cylinder above the other.

Advertising reads: Jooss Söhne & Co., München: Zweirad-Motoren.

Tragatsch, listing the brand as "Joos", states that the Munich firm built horizontal twin-cylinder engines which they fitted to their own motorcycles. Later they used Fafnir singles and v-twins.

In 1902 their address was listed as:

  • Jooß Söhne & Cie
    Distriktsstraße 22
    Landau in der Pfalz

Landau is about halfway between Frankfurt and Strasbourg, near the French border.

The same name appears in 1883 on a patent, address Landau; in 1896 in documents about a water pumping station gives the address as Munich.

A reference to a 1923 security document reads, "Founded 1921 for the execution of buildings of every kind. 1922 purchase of the property Munich, Westendstr. 142. In April 1925 resolution of liquidation."
