The marque was founded by German-born Wolfgang Rabe. The Corda factory was based in Sweden until 1992, and moved after the reunification of Germany to the Mecklenburg Malliß. The first Corda machines were produced in 1987 in Sweden with 1600 or 1800cc Volkswagen engines and were available with either a water-cooled diesel or petrol versions. Corda built the shapely three-wheelers with four-speed automatic transmission and reverse gear in small series. As of 1996, 2.5 liter Audi TDI engines were fitted. In the years after the turn of the millenium the sidecar combinations were sold under the name Corda Scandinavia from Germany.
