GEM Engines

G.E.M.

Manufactured by Georg E. Mathiasen, Copenhagen, ca 1902~1910

Designed by Leon Cordonnier of Ixion, they were built under licence to his company in France.

The GEM engines were also sold to the Finlay Bros in Melbourne Australia, 1904-1909, who marketed them under the GEM brand and later as the Barb.

Some 3000 engines were built, the last 600 of which were purchased by a Japanese businessman.

N.B. Cyclememory.org displays an image of a Gem 100cc ohv four-stroke, but the Ixion-based engines were two-strokes.
