QUB motorcycles

Produced from 1970 to 1975, following research by Dr Gordon Blair at Queens University, Belfast.

Blair's works on two-stroke engines resulted in the 250cc QUB road-racing machine. It was successfully raced in Ireland, and was later followed by a 500cc single. After that the good doctor concentrated on research work for other companies, often abroad.

The 250cc water cooled twin cylinder engine with a rotary sleeve valve engine was coupled to a 5 speed Albion gearbox and mounted in a frame made by Colin Seeley.

An extensive article on the 250 machine is posted at https://yorkshireferret.blogspot.com/2011/05/development-of-qub-250cc-twin-cylinder.html

"For over three decades the epicentre of cutting-edge motorcycle engine design was the Mechanical Engineering Department at Queen's University, Belfast, Co Antrim under the leadership of Professor Gordon Blair." https://irelandmade.ie/queens-beat-yamaha-professor-gordon-blair-season-3-episode-21/

The QUB 500 and 250 are occasionally displayed at motorcycle shows by Ray McCullough.
