Bert Yates born at Clee Hills, Shropshire.
Riding a Humber, on the 10th July 1899 he won a motorcycle race in Coventry, which he said was the first motorcycle race ever held on a track.

The New Zealand TT on Waiheke Island attracted 22 entries of which 17 competed. The winner was Alf Matson, Norton, who completed the 168 mile race in 3 hours and 11 minutes and was one of the few riders who didn't fall during the event.

Norton Motorcycles goes into administration
Norton fell into financial difficulties in 2008 and was then purchased by Stuart Garner who revived the marque. However, the new company was plagued by Brexit and numerous allegations of fraud.
