The 499cc New Hudson VI.A was supplied to both the French and Imperial Russian forces during WWI, but not to the British military which chose to employ machines from Douglas and Triumph.

The sidevalve engine was rated at 3.5 to 4hp and featured mechanically operated valves, with a valve-lifter cable to the exhaust. Drive is by three-speed gearbox via a chain-drive in an oil bath and a clutch operated by foot pedal or handlebar lever to a belt powering the rear wheel. Rim brakes are standard and front forks are New-Hudson Druid. Lighting is acetylene.
